Hi! I'm Joe Artz. I came to Iowa City 33 years ago. I entered Iowa's off-campus literary community through the Free Generative Workshop and the Iowa Writer's House, both honing my craft and meeting so many writers. Porchlight is among the many recent forward leaps in our community, right up there with Film Scene, the new and bigger PS1, and Poetry al Fresco.
I emcee the Iowa City Poetry Slam, held the last Monday of every month (except December) at the High Ground Coffee Shop 301 Market Street, in Iowa City, from 7 til 9 PM. Join us -- look us up on Facebook or Instagram to learn more.
I write flash fiction and poetry, have gotten a few of them published, the latest in Cleaver Magazine's Flash Fiction Antholog (https://www.cleavermagazine.com/a-contented-sun-rises-by-joe-artz ), but the Long Project's forum has renewed my interest in some novel and memoir possibilities I've been carrying in my head, file cabinets, and hard drives for years.
Hi Joe!
Thanks so much for introducing yourself! It's always great to hear from you. The Iowa City Poetry Slam is another not-to-miss development in the IC literary scene! We have a table set up for people doing retreats at PorchLight that shows the local happenings. Do you have a flyer we could put up?
