New Classes, New Member Incentives & an Open house Party!

Hello friends!

We are delighted to report that our first Misfit Master class, in collaboration with Iowa City Poetry, is going strong! This class,"Writing Poetry Toward a Book Form" asks how the art of bookmaking and the art of writing can inform one another. Participants are working with hands, hearts, and heads, melding words into physical manifestations, and vice versa under the guidance of our wonderful instructor, Margaret Yapp.

But don't worry. If you've missed this one we still have two more classes coming up in October and one in November.

Next up is "The Inventive Feminist Voice," taught by director Jennifer Colville. This class examines the work of women and non-binary innovators, considering how thier lived experience led to breaking with traditional forms. The class will take these experiments as launching points for new writing and/or revisioning of older pieces. A ten page manuscript critique is offered, as well!

Later in November we have a three session writing series with the outstanding Jennifer New of Hypha. This series called "Both/And" is designed for writers and non-writers alike who want to explore how getting in touch with breath, and body can enhance any writing practice or project.

Our last class of the fall is "Mixmasters: Four Approaches to Hybrid Writing," with four of the editors from Iowa City's own Brink literary magazine. Join us as each editor examines how hybrid writing approaches can enliven existing writing and lead to exciting new pieces.

If you've been thinking about becoming a member and taking a class, now is the time! Members now receive 15% off of classes. Find out more here.

Finally, join us on Oct. 14th from 6-8 for an Open house Party in collaboration with the City of Literature Book Festival. Enjoy snacks, drinks and music. Come to relax and discuss you favorite book festival events! Check out our digs, if you haven't already, and meet our crew!

Signing off from the Porch!
