Hello

I offer private one-on-one consultancy and coaching for anyone looking to or in the process of writing a memoir, auto-fiction, or work of creative nonfiction. This could be anything from an essay up to a full-length book project. We'll have a preliminary meeting to discuss the project and what you are hoping to do, and I'll structure a program to help meet your needs. This can include routine meetings, creating a week-by-week writing plan that fits your schedule, creating a reading list and generative exercises, reading pages and drafts, and giving feedback anywhere from line edits to concerns about narrative, style, structure, and more. I'll provide comprehensive feedback about and attention to the book itself, and we can also talk about the emotional and intellectual labor of personal and creative nonfiction writing. I love empowering clients to self-authorize and feel themselves capable of digging deep and telling their truth, and I have a few different strategies to help people get there.

Unfortunately, I don't act as an agent or an interlocutor for agents, but I can advise clients on client pitches and best practices for reaching out.

I have my MFA from the Nonfiction Writing Program at the University of Iowa, where I then taught in the Rhetoric Department for four years before heading to Italy with a Fulbright Fellowship. I've taught creative nonfiction classes at the university and community level for years in Iowa, and I think about my consultancy work as another way to teach. I am finishing my first memoir, about my mother and what it means to come from love, while I conduct research for my second book, based in Italy.
