About the event

Set your words to music in this free generative workshop with prompts inspired by the Black Angel and Schubert's "Death and the Maiden."

Shubert's song "Death and the Maiden" has inspired artistic dialogue across ages, and cultures, including an avant-garde string quartet called "Black Angels." Musician and writer Tricia Park, and PorchLight director Jennifer Colville will offer a short history of the song's inspirational force, and provide prompts to help you try your hand at writing a piece of poetry or prose in response to the song itself, or one of its other musical or iconographic permutations.

Participants will have the opportunity to send their responses to Jennifer for feedback, and few pieces will be selected to be read at a special performance during the Music IC Festival.
