About the event
Care and Spark is a space for artists who are care takers. This includes parents, or those who are taking care of older family members or loved ones. These free events are held by a different care taker/artist each month. Artist pursuing all kinds of artistic practices are welcome. Join us for a group activity designed by the presenting artist, snacks and some unstructured social time. Care and Spark is a space to share stories, connect, and take inspiration from one another. As Sadiya Hartman writes: "Care is the antidote to violence." If violence is a broad word for the muriad kinds of harm our world doles out, then all that comes with care--paying attention, walking the fine line between joy and sorrow, allowing ourselves to be vulnerable and soft--is what we need. Now. Caretaking can be overwhelming. It's easy to dwell on the hardest parts. But there are joys included in the circular process that is care. Join writer and zine publisher Jennifer New for reflective practices on caretaking, and leave with a tiny zine to serve as a reminder.Saturday May 6th, from 3-5 pm, at 1019 E. Washington St. in Iowa City!
