About the event
Co-sponsored by PorchLight and Iowa City Poetry, the Free Generative Writing Workshops provide a space for career writers, curious beginners, writers of all income levels and stages of life. Our goal is to make it easy to meet and learn from some of the most talented writer/teachers living in or passing through Iowa City. Every month a new writer leads a generative workshop, presenting a prompt inspired by their own preoccupations, passions, or interests. It has been an adventure, and we are continually inspired by the creative concentration of participants, and the powerful beginnings the workshop generates.
This month's leader:
Anna Morrison is a poet and screenwriter from Atlanta, Georgia with an MFA from the Iowa Writers' Workshop. She is the author of Long Exposure, winner of the 2022 Moon City Press Poetry Prize and her poetry and nonfiction have been published in Best American Poetry, The Adroit Journal, Brink, and Narrative, among many other journals. She also co-edits the literary journal Two Peach with poet Catherine Pond. Her writing and films deal with themes of motherhood & madness, familial grief, and mental health. She lives in Iowa City where she is a Lecturer in Screenwriting in the Cinematic Arts department at the University of Iowa.
