About the event
Come be part of a community garden building project this summer. Find out how the practice of planting can inspire creative writing. The Writing Garden Project features six free planting and writing sessions, a celebratory reading, zine publication and garden unveiling in August. The project is supported by an Iowa City Public Arts Grant. We couldn't be happier to start our first session with poet Becca Klaver, on May 18th at 1:00. Come plant and write. We will ground our bodies, and let our creative minds blossom. This is a free event and all ages and levels of experience are welcome.
About this sessions leader: Becca Klaver has been writing a poem a day in April since 2007, usually as part of an online community. She is the author of the poetry collections LA Liminal, Empire Wasted, and Ready for the World, as well as several chapbooks. Her most recent publications include Midwinter Constellation, a book co-written with 31 other poets in homage to Bernadette Mayer’s Midwinter Day, and Greetings from Bowling Green, a chapbook of postcard poems. As an editor, she co-founded Switchback Books and is currently co-editing the anthology Electric Gurlesque (Saturnalia Books). Becca holds degrees from the University of Southern California (BA), Columbia College Chicago (MFA), and Rutgers University (PhD). She lives in Iowa City, where she works as Program Manager of the Iowa Summer Writing Festival.
