In Connect with Local Writers
This forum is intended to help support local writers, as well as those offering professional services, or literary opportunities in Iowa City and surrounding areas. My hope is that it can grow and evolve as we learn each other's needs and the best ways in which a forum of this sort can address them. We are proudly a work in progress. 1.Start by introducing yourself and how you have come to writing and/or organizing literary offerings. We welcome writers working at all levels of experience and across all creative writing genres. 2.Say a few words about what you hope to get out of joining the forum: community, process advice, a particular service, a critique or reading group, notifications of community workshops, notifications of community readings? Are you interested in finding literary organizations to volunteer with? 3.Let us know if you have a service or literary offering that you would like to spread the word about! We welcome regular postings about new opportunities! To supplement this forum, PorchLight offers a monthly "Long Project Check-in and Mixer" on the last Saturday of every month from 1-3, starting on January 28th, 2023. Anyone working on a long project in any genre is welcome to join a round-robin style discussion. Each person will have a chance to talk about what they are working on, where they are in their process and to share a one page section, if they wish. Participants may give light positive feedback and share recommendations for any part of the writing process. Snacks and coffee will be served. All forum members are invited so count on meeting long term writers, and beginners.
