Dare I say that May is the most generous month? I just retrieved a May basket hanging from PorchLight's front door nob. So I will say it is and return the generosity with some fresh offerings.
This May we launch two new classes: Research for Writers (a class to help develop your research skills and introduce ways research can generate new writing), and STORIED: a four-week program on novel writing process. I'm excited to dive into some research with the brilliant non-fiction writer and librarian, Laura Crossett, and to think fresh thoughts about my long in-process novel with the talented Nicole VanderLinden. There is still time to sign up. Just follow these links!
Would you like to be part of a community garden building project this summer? Interested in how the practice of planting can inspire creative writing? The Writing Garden Project features six free planting and writing sessions, a celebratory reading, zine publication and garden unveiling in August. The project is supported by an Iowa City Public Arts Grant. We couldn't be happier to start our first session with poet Becca Klaver, on May 18th at 1:00. Come plant and write. We will ground our bodies, and let our creative minds blossom. This is a free event and all ages and levels of experience are welcome.
As usual, we keep public hours every Saturday from 11-3. Come visit to find out about what we do, or to find a cozy nook for some reading, writing, or art-making. Here's a graphic to show that we mean it!
