PorchLight Recommends

Dear readers,

We've got three treats to recommend this week. I'll keep it short because it's all so sweet!

First up, and for High school students -- This Thursday, 4/28, join us at PorchLight for an after school workshop with nationally known spoken word artist Amal Kassir. Amal is visiting Iowa City as the special guest of the Anne Frank Tree Planting Celebration and is offering this workshop via sponsorship from Iowa City UNESCO City of Literature. Just show up at 4 pm!!!

Second, If you've heard tell of last years wonderful Poetry Alfresco reading event, this Sunday is your chance to experience its second incarnation in front lawns across the College Green Neighborhood, ending with a party at PorchLight from 8:00-9:00. Read the write up from Genevieve Trainor here: https://littlevillagemag.com/outside-readings-felt-so-right-poetry-al-fresco-returns-to-iowa-city-lawns-this-spring/

Finally, after Poetry Alfresco, I'll be attending the screening of Sirens in the Vino Verite series at FilmScene. Organizer Tommy Haines describes the film as "the story of the first-ever all-female thrash metal band in the Middle East ... a portrait of the joy and pain of challenging friendships as the women of Slave to Sirens find their voice in a culture that is not accepting of their music, sexuality, or politics." Director Rita Baghdadi will join us for a post screening discussion!
